For me, Pakistan Army is a proud motherly institution that has never discriminated anyone on basis of religion, caste or creed. The only factor that prevails in Pakistan Army is

                                          ‘Love for Pakistan’.

              "A Sikh in Pakistan Army,”

I don’t know how it sounds to people when they see a guy with a turban wearing a Baloch regiment badge, but is definitely a source of immense pleasure and of extreme pride to carry Pakistani flag on my uniform while wearing my religion on my sleeves. My romance with Pakistan Army began while staying in Lahore during college days. It did not happen out of the blue rather it was patriotism and nationalism inherited from my father who used to raise national flag at our house in Nankana Sahib (located about 80 km southwest of Lahore and about 75 km east of Faisalabad) during the complete month of August every year. We follow this tradition since Pakistan’s inception and it will continue till the world remains. I am talking of nearly ten years ago when I and my friends of Forman Christian College (FCC) decided to apply for the prestigious National College of Arts (NCA) in Lahore. On the way, we passed through an army recruitment office. Something attracted me about it but no one had any idea of a Sikh being allowed into Pakistan's military and affiliated institutions, I recalled. I got admission at the NCA but later on decided to visit the Army recruitment office individually to make inquiries. When I was told the rules didn't inhibit Sikhs from joining the army, I immediately asked about the prerequisites, apparently arousing curiosity at the office about the
"Sikh who wanted to join Pakistan Army".
Like other patriotic stories, it pulled an irrepressible tug at the heartstrings.

myidtmypakhar.jpg
Now my intent to join the ranks of Pakistan Army was pellucid but I kept this unusual decision buried in my heart and did not consult anyone. When people finally got to know, many of them tried to deter me from pursuing my ambitions and affections for the motherland. But how could they? They only thought of the highly misjudged extremist outlook of the country presuming that the army would never truly consider me as a part of it because of my religious beliefs. The biggest surprise, however, came from my mother who I initially thought would oppose my decision but turned out to be the only source of motivation at that time. She gave her consent and allowed me to go ahead in pursuit of my dreams. Being an elder son, she was initially worried about me joining the army but turned this weakness into strength, when she gave me a curt reply to my joke about continuing my degree instead of being in army after termination of first term at Pakistan Military Academy (PMA) Kakul that I would find doors closed upon returning home.

As I write, the memories of occasions that occurred during my tenure at different stations of posting, especially the experiences of my deployment in the South Waziristan Agency (SWA) are flashing through my mind. For nearly three years from now, I landed myself in Spinkai Raghzai (SKR), nearly 10 km from Jandola Fort at SWA along with my unit. I had a daunting task of inspiring and leading the soldiers. I tried to follow in the footsteps of inspirational Islamic leaders, who lead by personal example. The reaction of locals on seeing an officer of Pakistan Army wearing a turban was befittingly responded to. My actions reflecting my love for Pakistan was the key and the only reason that I survived in battle-hardened mountains of SWA.

Indeed, life in Pakistan Army has been challenging and specifically formidable for me owing to a distinct headdress but not undoable. As I owe nationalism and patriotism the way my ancestors did at the time of partition, who preferred to stay put while showing high valued commitment to the land, I just followed.

For me, Pakistan Army is a proud motherly institution that has never discriminated anyone on basis of religion, caste or creed.

The only factor that prevails in Pakistan Army is
 ‘love for Pakistan’.

When I hear “Pakistan Zindabad”, blood starts pumping in my veins as it does in any other Muslim Pakistani. The green and white shining on my uniform is the significant reason for me to live with pride and by far it is the only reason

OROP : " NOT MORE NOT LESS " CAN THE SOLDIER GET The Real Jai Hind Moment

SOURCE ; FACE BOOK

    REWARD FOR A MARTYR'S FAMILY

Their parents get the headless, mutilated, bodies of their sons.

" NOT  MORE  NOT  LESS  "

Hard hitting article from Tarun Vijay. I am surprised how an MP from BJP could write such an article, rightly accusing this ( and past ) Govts of total disregard for the men in uniform. That he has not covered many other equally important and relevant issues , must be due to constraints of space. I recommend that you read this article.

Well, well, well. Looks like Modi is getting it from his own for his extreme arrogance.
Serves him right. He thought it was beneath him to talk to the veterans.

The Real Jai Hind Moment: Stand With
                            The Soldier
                            Tarun Vijay.
          BJPmember of the Rajya  SABHA

A lieutenant colonel from my constituency, Dehradun, was martyred recently in Jammu & Kashmir. There were hardly any noticeable faces of the city's so-called who's who at the prayer meeting organised to pay homage to the martyr.

Some political leaders, including the chief minister, sent their personal assistants. His wife had to plead hundred times to the principal of a famous Delhi school to have their son, a differently-abled sweet boy, admitted as the school had special counsellors, besides it encouraged inclusive education, so rare and important for such students.

 She received a flat  'NO'

An IAS officer, sitting in the high corridors of power, said to a colleague
'These faujis are demanding too much, in spite of living a luxurious life with all things, including a number of sahayaks available for free.'

Amongst the secular order of public discourse, it is fashionable to attack the armed forces for 'being brutal, violating human rights,' while in the same breath they adore and advocate the rights of the terrorists, Geelanis, and their goals.

In J&K and in areas of Andhra and Chhattisgarh, jihadis and Maoists have rich supporters in Mumbai and Delhi. Those who sometimes do a fauji show on their channel for the sake of increasing TRP ratings, happily share the dais with anti-national elements of Kashmir facing prosecution for attacking the armed forces under the ironically titled banner of the Idea of India!

A top general, recently retired from the army, said with sadness that today a soldier finds himself at the receiving end and would think twice about sending his son to the army. Go become a clerk, or try your luck at a professional college, do an MBA or prepare for the UPSC exams.

Joining the armed forces is no more a job that is considered an attractive and izzat wala kaam (respectable profession) and it shows in the entrance exams for the forces.

The Armed Forces Dental College in Pune is one of the best in the country. Yet it had to continuously lower the bar for its entrance qualification so that candidates with lesser ranks could join, as top students often choose other options.

While we regale ourselves about making India awesome, the soldiers -- lieutenant generals, colonels, subedars, JCOs -- are showing their medals and demanding the early implementation of the much assured One Rank One Pension.

It is painful to see our soldiers sitting at Jantar Mantar like any other demonstrator, in the scorching heat, heavy downpour and uncomfortable days and nights.

You may argue with them a hundred times -- 'Please don't demonstrate. The government is committed to implementing OROP. Have some patience. A soldier demonstrating at Jantar Mantar is the last thing an Indian would like to see.'

But their arguments are strong and their zazba is like a rock. Six Prime Ministers assured. Nothing happened. Forty years have passed, when the demand was raised and everyone agreed to it.

 Still nothing happened.

I stood with them, after paying tribute to the Kargil martyrs at India Gate and shouted Jai Hind.

'I am with you. I stand with you. I support you wholeheartedly. If you allow me I can sit with you, here at Jantar Mantar.'

They were touched, but politely said,

 'Sorry sir, no politicians here'.

It was atrocious to see that police in khaki behaved in a very uncivil and rude manner with these war veterans. The right course should have been to chargesheet the guilty policemen who didn't just hurt the soldiers, but India's pride.

I wonder why can't we make it mandatory for all IAS and IPS officers to serve in the armed forces for one year before joining service?

What stops us from making it compulsory for every Member of Parliament to spend three months, immediately after taking oath, in the military barracks/maybe a few nights in the bunkers too on the borders -- to learn and understand the life of a fauji?

The media, who often pay respects to the terrorists, must also be sent for a few months training and living at the borders. Let us then understand what it means to be a fauji.

Those who make decisions about soldiers have hardly any idea of their life and the job assignments. The secular 'left of centre' class has made the situation worse by floating the idea that soldiers get paid to lay their lives for the nation.

It is an inherent risk wrapped into their job profile and they must think twice before joining the forces. This is bullshit. No other job can be compared to the soldiers' duties. They retire at or before they even come close to forty. The officers' uniform and mandatory elevation to higher ranks is not available to men in uniform unlike the civil services.

Their leave is often not sanctioned even if there is a marriage or death in the family. Their postings are never done on the basis of sifarish, like the civil servants often manage. Even if one is not posted at Siachen, or in the Jaisalmer region, with extreme weather patterns, or anywhere in the Northeast, or Sikkim, or Punjab, the risks are as abundant as in any war-like situation.

That is the India we have got from the Congress' six decades of secular rule. Internal security and external violations of our territory always pose a threat and it is the continuous vigil and their incessant sacrifices that have made it possible to see the tricolour fluttering freely at Red Fort.

Their parents get the headless, mutilated, bodies of their sons.

Just imagine, a mother receiving her son's body that will not be for ANTIM  DARSHAN. People forget that respect for the soldiers is not just cosmetic patriotism, when a Kargil breaks out and television screens show the war in a home theatre. It is a question of life and death. And soldiers too have families, parents, daughters and sons.

A soldier reaches home on a 15 day vacation. Five days are often spent in the to and fro journey. Rest of the days, he is running from pillar to post for simple things, getting his children admitted to a better school, trying to resolve a court case or a land dispute, seeing his old parents get good healthcare etc.

None helps him at the district administration level. A policeman would be in a far better position to get things done in the jungle of a highly politicised and corrupt administration, but not a man in the olive green.

There is not even a martyrs memorial.

For the last 14 years, ex soldiers organisations have been making a demand to have a grand martyrs memorial erected in Uttarakhand, where almost every second home is a soldier's home. No chief minister could do it, in spite of the fact that every one assured it, and assurances were given in writing.

When I started the campaign, I released two crores (Rs 20 million) from my MPLADS funds, the first response to it from the district administration -- the collector -- came to me after 13 months.

This year, when we almost did it, the worst hurdles came from the POLITICAL CLASS That is where we stand in the regime of our patriotism.

I demanded land on lease and/or an apartment for soldiers who have completed three years of service in J&K and to their next kith and kin, in case of a martyr.
All the traitors in the Valley began protesting.

Who came out to support the soldier then? Has he done any crime by serving in J&K? If a Kashmiri can buy land in Bihar or Assam with ease, why can't a soldier get a piece of land in the Kashmir valley, that too on lease? You want him to be there to protect you and lay his life. But won't give an inch of land to him. That is how we express our respects for the men in uniform.

[ EVEN COUNTRIES LIKE USA GRANTS CITIZENSHIP FOR THOSE FORIEGNERS WHO SERVE IN                      US ARMED FORCES  -Vasundhra_]

A son not wanting to join the armed forces in a land where generations after generations have been joining the forces without any question is a dangerous trend.

A soldier needs  IZZAT (respect and honour,) much more than money.

Today if he feels both are being denied to him, please walk down to him, clasp his hands and say,
'Sir, we salute you; we want to hear you with patience.'
That will be the real Jai Hind moment.

OROP : The Sine Curve of OROP or ARE WE HEADING FOR "CONSTITUTIONAL DICTATORSHIP"

Subject:
An Article by Lt Gen BPS Mander / The Sine Curve of OROP

           The Sine Curve of OROP

So much has been written and discussed about OROP that it has become impossible to resist from throwing in ones two anna bit.

Those familiar with physics will know that the sine curve goes through crests and troughs as measured from the line of equilibrium. A crest is a point on the wave where the displacement of the medium is at maximum and the trough is the point where the displacement is at the minimum.

Let us examine the OROP movement in this relation.

Crests

The tip of the crest is that the servicemen have come to learn of their entitlements, notwithstanding that it is a bit too late. Having retired after 38 of service in the Army, it was only after retirement, I learnt that our pensions had been reduced 40 years back when we were Lieutenants.

If anyone thinks that the system is going to take care of you, it is an erroneous belief.

The serving officers are retired officers of tomorrow ( though one does not believe it as long as one is serving).

We have clearly come to recognize the difference between the pay scales and service conditions of the Defence forces and the following

(a)    Bureaucracy
(b)    Para Military Forces
(c)    Politicians.
(d)    Other Government Agencies.

We dont need a genius to tell us that the services have been short changed from when on.

The fact that we can be exploited because the Defence  Forces are not allowed to protest, has come across with great clarity.

That there still exist officers with pride and self respect who will do anything for a collective cause. My respect and salutation goes out to the officers and other ranks who went on fast unto death, because only the defence forces understand the value of life, and they were doing it in peace time for their colleagues.

Mahroof Raza. This is my individual opinion, That he came across as a sane voice in support of the veterans in spite of being on Times Now.

Troughs

The trust between the government and the defence forces has been eroded to some     [read '' much ''  ]  extent.

The defence forces will demand their rightful place in the in the hierarchy, maybe in a more forceful manner than earlier.

The Chiefs of the three services may act in unison to demand their rightful place and status vis as vis the bureaucracy.

The psyce of the soldier may change.

Bureaucracy. Nothing was expected from them, but they still excelled in the negative.

The red herrings of VRS and 5 years review and the like, are all their insertions. Let me kill the point of the bureaucracy here.

Why do they rule roost? It happens all over the
world including matured democracies.

What do they exploit? Their continuity, their ability to show greener pastures, and the Core - principle,- when we are together, no one else matters.

Lots of people let us down, but I am putting across only those whose opinion may have mattered, but they did not come forward. Why they did not come forward could only be for two reasons:(a)     That they did not understand what our demand was; or whether the Defence forces had actually not been given their due.
(b)    They were aware; but their self preservation instincts did not allow them to come forward to support the cause.

Where were our defence officers children who were part of the film fraternity and today playing croquet with sapphire studded mallets?
The  Anushkas, the Dhupias, the Jetlys, and so on. The list is endless.

They acknowledge that they grew to that stature because they were Defence Forces Children. So is there no payback time? They go cart wheeling with Coldrin tablets, when Salman Khan sneezes. So (?)

Where were the defence officers children in the media? The Arnabs, Thapars, Sawants, Rahuls and so on who owe so much to their background. They covered Kargil not because of their interest in the Services, but because of the glory they got form it.  Some of them rose by putting out anti defence forces articles, to reach where they did.
Was it not time to pay back?

                       Or

did they succumb to pressures from the Ministry of Info and Broadcasting, which loads them with funds?

And where were the Corporates? Though I dont blame them. Their survival is directly linked to the government. But today some are so big that an indication from them, makes the government take notice.

And finally the political system. Has it become so enslaved to the babus, that they need clearance for everything? Are we seeing a reversal of roles here? Are we going to see a government that will have no say by the  elected representatives and a country controlled by file pushing babus? You take your pick.
Line of Equilibrium

There were a lot of fence sitters. Army never has fence sitters as the fence in the army is of barbed wire, and it is difficult to sit on it.

This phenomenon is peculiar to the others.

Come friends, we are not looking for sympathy, as the fight is about our rights. We are asking for something which should not have been taken away from us forty years back.We would have wanted so many to come out from the shadow of the node and take sides. Not necessarily ours. We would have known where we stand.

And to the Defence Forces I say that we are fighting over trivia and missing a larger point.

OROP is a life time concept and its implementation has to be independent of the Central Pay Commission.

The CPC must take OROP into its fold as it is, and not adjudicate on it !

                    Let not OROP stand for
                  'Our Retest On Perseverance'

I end with only a small note of caution, as we are not begging; only demanding our rights. We will find a method to achieve it.

Hum to dariya hain,
          apna hunar jaante hain;
 Jis taraf Jaaenge,
raasta banaa lenge.

( We are like a river in flow, we know our talent and capability, We will make and carve our way, as we go along)

Anyway let the Tweedledum ( Pol class) and the Tweedledee ( Babus) resolve the issue.
Let Lewis Carroll rest in peace.

PS:- My grateful thanks to the Delhi Police who tried to wrestle with veterans, bringing OROP into focus. Without their help, there would have been no OROP.

OROP : SOME MORE SNIPPETS OF EKTA RALLY FROM JANTAR MANTAR

Vicky Mehta's photo.

UFESM Rally to Support our Call for OROP at Jantar Mantar on 12 September was well attended beyond expectations. I was there from 10 am to 2.30 pm and was elated to see thousands of participants, an Ocean of faces which filled the space available like water. In fact, a claustrophobic person would not have been able to bear the crushing crowd.

Faujis and ladies from all over in batches kept on coming one after the other, endlessly. We kept getting news that over 200 buses filled with Faujis coming to attend this Rally were stopped from entering Delhi.

Even a critical person like me was impressed with the discipline and dignity displayed by the thousands at Jantar Mantar. Five hours is no short time for veterans to stand, yet, many senior citizens like me, voluntarily stood up and vacated their chairs for a lady or frail elderly looking gent. The spirit and attitude of one and all was commendable.

However, at the cost of being guilty of being insensitive, I feel it is important to be practical and straightforward in conveying my comments on the aspect of planning and strategizing this Mammoth Rally.

It is all very well to repeatedly chant slogans and show a National Spirit but frankly, everyone is quite fed up of repeating the “Sadda Haqq - Eithey Rakh”. I was expecting that all this would stop after the crowds filled up and after introducing the various delegations who had come from out station, the UFESM Luminaries would get down to letting us all know of their future plans and also getting a voice response to their future strategy. I was, in fact, looking forward to this and so was the Media.

It is not that the Media was not present. There were at least 8 Transmission SUVs from as many Media Houses there and their representatives were all topped up with Bytes and Clips. What they were waiting for was some information from the UFESM. We call it NEWS. Contrary to my impression that there was a Media Gag, my friends in the Media clarified that there was no Media Gag. There was NO NEWS for them to transmit. In fact they too were disappointed at mere Sloganeering and the National Spirit. Reminded me of what one would have felt if after all the warming up and Josh Building at the start point of the Cross Country Run at the Glider Dome in NDA, we were finally told that the Run is cancelled. Grrrrrr!!!

I saw Col Anil Kaul, Wing Cdr Nebb, Col Joshupura and Wg Cdr CK Sharma along with Gen Satbir on the Dias and thought that they had surely worked out a Strategy to show us what was planned for the future. But Alas !! When will they get a chance to address a crowd as mammoth as this.
May I recommend the following to the UFESM Central Committee:-

  1. Please promulgate a WhatsApp No AND an E-Mail ID for us to send you our views and recommendations so that you can read them for whatever they are worth. You will surely get some worthwhile inputs.

 2. You have another chance for a massive gathering on 02 Oct when Anna Hazare has promised to come to the OROP Stage. Please do not waste that opportunity like this. [ Anna Hazare has already cancelled his 02 Oct 2015  Rally for OROP & Kisaan Land Bill ]

 3. Please do not cancel your “Bihar Chalo” Aandolan.

There are many ways to execute a mission. However, we must adopt one that works and always have Plan –B in place and promulgated.

WE HAVE THE RESOLUTION OF THE PARLIAMENT, THE RULING OF THE SUPREME COURT AND THE GOODWILL OF PATRIOTIC COUNTRYMEN. LET US SEE HOW LONG OUR DUES CAN BE DENIED.

May I request everyone to share this and request views on the above.
