UFESM Rally to Support our Call for OROP at Jantar Mantar on 12 September was well attended beyond expectations. I was there from 10 am to 2.30 pm and was elated to see thousands of participants, an Ocean of faces which filled the space available like water. In fact, a claustrophobic person would not have been able to bear the crushing crowd.
Faujis and ladies from all over in batches kept on coming one after the other, endlessly. We kept getting news that over 200 buses filled with Faujis coming to attend this Rally were stopped from entering Delhi.
Even a critical person like me was impressed with the discipline and dignity displayed by the thousands at Jantar Mantar. Five hours is no short time for veterans to stand, yet, many senior citizens like me, voluntarily stood up and vacated their chairs for a lady or frail elderly looking gent. The spirit and attitude of one and all was commendable.
However, at the cost of being guilty of being insensitive, I feel it is important to be practical and straightforward in conveying my comments on the aspect of planning and strategizing this Mammoth Rally.
It is all very well to repeatedly chant slogans and show a National Spirit but frankly, everyone is quite fed up of repeating the “Sadda Haqq - Eithey Rakh”. I was expecting that all this would stop after the crowds filled up and after introducing the various delegations who had come from out station, the UFESM Luminaries would get down to letting us all know of their future plans and also getting a voice response to their future strategy. I was, in fact, looking forward to this and so was the Media.
It is not that the Media was not present. There were at least 8 Transmission SUVs from as many Media Houses there and their representatives were all topped up with Bytes and Clips. What they were waiting for was some information from the UFESM. We call it NEWS. Contrary to my impression that there was a Media Gag, my friends in the Media clarified that there was no Media Gag. There was NO NEWS for them to transmit. In fact they too were disappointed at mere Sloganeering and the National Spirit. Reminded me of what one would have felt if after all the warming up and Josh Building at the start point of the Cross Country Run at the Glider Dome in NDA, we were finally told that the Run is cancelled. Grrrrrr!!!
I saw Col Anil Kaul, Wing Cdr Nebb, Col Joshupura and Wg Cdr CK Sharma along with Gen Satbir on the Dias and thought that they had surely worked out a Strategy to show us what was planned for the future. But Alas !! When will they get a chance to address a crowd as mammoth as this.
May I recommend the following to the UFESM Central Committee:-
1. Please promulgate a WhatsApp No AND an E-Mail ID for us to send you our views and recommendations so that you can read them for whatever they are worth. You will surely get some worthwhile inputs.
2. You have another chance for a massive gathering on 02 Oct when Anna Hazare has promised to come to the OROP Stage. Please do not waste that opportunity like this. [ Anna Hazare has already cancelled his 02 Oct 2015 Rally for OROP & Kisaan Land Bill ]
3. Please do not cancel your “Bihar Chalo” Aandolan.
There are many ways to execute a mission. However, we must adopt one that works and always have Plan –B in place and promulgated.
WE HAVE THE RESOLUTION OF THE PARLIAMENT, THE RULING OF THE SUPREME COURT AND THE GOODWILL OF PATRIOTIC COUNTRYMEN. LET US SEE HOW LONG OUR DUES CAN BE DENIED.
May I request everyone to share this and request views on the above.
