THE UNSAID CASCADING SPILL OVER OF NOT RELEASING OROP

(Another sad and distressing but truthfully couched note being sounded)


One thing is certain, even if OROP is granted in full, our Armed Forces are no longer going to be the same hereinafter. Irreparable damage has been done to it.


 China and Pakistan couldn't have wished for more. 




1. It possibly is time for veterans and more so serving Chiefs to get it across to the NSA, Ajit Doval, the damaging impact of OROP getting out of hand. We Faujis did the BJP a lot of good in the run up to elections. It is well documented, and recorded on TV. BJP made earnest promises about OROP without any riders or time frames, and like crafty politicians they let it hang like a low fruit, and we faujis, both serving and veterans grabbed it with both hands. Ironically, it is V K’s daughter who joins us, notwithstanding that her husband is still in service, but the deafening silence from V K and the 12 bore Sureshot is shameful. Both do not need their position in Govt to survive, both have adequate resources / dwellings to feel secure and safe. If Sureshot could sound off his mouth after the Burma episode what has happened now? What do they lose by remaining silent, except their respect among the veterans?

2. If there is to be any revolt of even the smallest level by serving officers / men who are on the cusp of retiring, Jaitley and his cohorts will wash their hands off and say we were ready and willing, “they” other Govt officials / bureaucrats are to blame.

The IAS will become the fall guys if this goes out of control.

Modi and Parrikar will not know where to turn.

But the gap that is not clear to anyone is what / who is holding it back? We keep saying bureaucrats / other Central Services / the Lt Gen equivalents who have OROP in any case, but we have no tangible person or persons who are identifiable and can be isolated as the few who are obstructing OROP. Can IESM single them out? Can names be stated? Will TV channels say so if IESM supplies those names? What is the level of truth if we give names? Is libel a problem? Is a defamation suit possible?

3. Much as the Chiefs are restricted by their office, as the COSC they can offer clear advice and caution to the PM on this matter. It is time to get sitting judges of the Supreme Court onto the TV screens to explain why the SC has given the ruling they have, on OROP. Somehow, the danger of making the serving Armed Forces jawans & officers look like impotent cannon fodder is not getting to the citizen. If the Govt treats Armed Forces like petty sharpshooters on hire, they will behave like that and when that attitude becomes ingrained, Govt has lost control, and not all the generals /admirals / air marshals will be able stem the surge of mistrust. It will overwhelm the nation, then media will say ill-disciplined faujis, forgetting they abdicated their responsibility of giving severe warnings to the Nation & its leaders as well as citizens.

4. What TV channels and experts need to tell Indians is that OROP quarrel is already being exploited by Pakistan and China. Intelligentsia, academia, NGOs, civil liberties stalwarts, MPs, MLAs, media moghuls, and the knowalls have missed this point. Excited as they are with Sangakara, Shabir Shah, Mirwaiz, Shobha De, pornography, Salman, Nitish, Lallu, Omar, Saina, Sania, etc etc. Further delay will cause disenchantment within the rank and file which in turn will destroy the izzat and feeling of pride within the fauji’s heart for his Govt, and it will damage the inviolable rule of “ not to reason why”. Unlike Gujjars, Naxals, Telangana, prohibition, Vidarbha, river water sharing, this matter cannot be left to fester. The wound will become incurable, resistant to any and all antibiotics. Releasing OROP at that time, on the festering wound, will be wasteful and create an ambience of victory over the Nation which they have sworn to serve & protect. I urge the IESM along with TV channels to educate Indians in their drawing rooms as to what is happening, and that the countrymen must rise together and put a stop to this confrontation by getting Modi / Parrikar / Jaitley to announce OROP immediately with release of pensions before Deepawali dawns.

  On our part, veterans must ensure that there is no tamasha as if to say we defeated them. There can be no victory against my own Govt. Simply put, a disagreement has been resolved.

Remember, the adversary is waiting for OROP to boil over and then use it for propaganda, and if they do make propaganda over it, what can Modi / Parrikar / Jaitley / Doval / Sushma do?

1. These inputs highlighted above have been articulated a number of times on social media as well as the Print and electronic media. We have a sleepy Nation who knows nothing of the countries Defence System and the mechanism of maintaining Forces. Similarly our Bureaucracy is also ignorant. The political bosses mostly come from Lawyer Stream and from such backgrounds who know too little on the Importance of the Armed Forces for any Country. 

 
2. Pardon, 99 % of our senior ranks are dismal professionals who have been specially chosen by the Bureaucracy from the lots of known Yes-Men. It is a sad affair. Expecting of them any bold step is asking for the moon.



 3. The basic fabric of the Armed Forces has been deeply affected because of the ongoing OROP agitation and the ill-treatment of the Veterans by the Govt machinery, that a common soldier has been forced to think as to why he should die and for what, is it the pseudo and miss guided glory and traditions which is being indoctrinated into him. Let us not befool us, the soldier of today is much aware and he clearly understands that his family will be on begging spree in the streets for life, if he gets himself killed out of the so called Bahaduri and Veer-gati. He is calculative and knows that a living man is worth millions to his family that a Martyred one. The Bahaduri Medals do not bring bread and butter for the fatherless children or his widow.

4. Let us think about the serious consequences of this poorly conceived handling of the agitation and miss-doings in handling the Armed Forces by the Govt, It has seriously tampered with the spirit and morale of its Armed forces, which are the principal ingredients in a soldier for winning any war.

5. Approaching this insensitive government made of selfish and power hungry Bureaucracy and Politicians is all Unfruitful. I fear with trembling shock to think of the happening of a kind of uprising among the Jawans enen if perceived as a remote possibility. The Officer Lot today has no grits or moral courage since they too have become materialistic with changing times. If possible please do read 1946 Jabalpur Mutiny by STC and ref there to the mention of Navy Mutiny on their 70 ships around that time on the blog site

 when soldiers revolted that too under the British Rule. Do also read the Role of Armed Forces In India’s Independence there, which forced the Britishers to pack off many months earlier than their planned exit.

 You will know why I think it could be an uprising by the Jawans in case no solution is found earliest and the honour and izzat of the Armed Forces is not restored by the political leadership.
6. Only solution therefore one can think of, which may have chances to save the country from the impending doom in case of a war, timed well to confront a demoralised Indian Armed Forces, by China or Pak, is to go for a PIL to Supreme Court by Ex Chiefs or by the Veteran Groups highlighting the impending dangers of ruining the Armed Forces, an ACT which is Anti-National in its larger sense.

7. Hope the honourable Supreme Court of India will rein in the Govt to introspect with learned men of the country sidelining and cutting to size, the current Bureaucracy.

7. If not, let us be prepared to lose Kashmir, part of Himachal, Punjab and Arunachal Pradesh for EVER. They, Pak or China will never return these lands back to you if we lose them to them during the war.

8. Lastly let us pray for Divine Intervention.
