HEALTH :ONIONS CAN CURE & ALSO POISON

ONIONS CAN CURE & ALSO POISON

ONIONS :  PLEASE READ TO THE END: IMPORTANT
In 1919 when the flu killed 40 million people there was this Doctor that visited the many farmers to see if he could help them combat the flu.. Many of the farmers and their family had contracted it and many died.

The doctor came upon this one farmer and to his surprise, everyone was very healthy. When the doctor asked what the farmer was doing that was different the wife replied that she had placed an unpeeled onion in a dish in the rooms of the home, (probably only two rooms back then). The doctor couldn't believe it and asked if he could have one of the onions and place it under the microscope. She gave him one and when he did this, he did find the flu virus in the onion. It obviously absorbed the bacteria, therefore, keeping
the family healthy.

Now, I heard this story from my hairdresser. She said that several years ago, many of her employees were coming down with the flu, and so were many of her customers. The next year she placed several bowls with onions around in her shop. To her surprise, none of her staff got sick. It must work.  Try it and see what happens. We did it last year and we never got the flu.

Now there is a P. S. to this for I sent it to a friend in Oregon who regularly contributes material to me on health issues. She replied with this most interesting experience about onions:

Thanks for the reminder. I don't know about the farmer's story...but, I do know that I contacted pneumonia, and, needless to say, I was very ill... I came across an article that said to cut both ends off an onion put it into an empty jar, and place the jar next to the sick patient at night. It said the onion wo uld be black in the morning from the ger ms. ..sure enough it happened just like that...the onion was a mess and I began to feel better.

Another thing I read in the article was that onions and garlic placed around the room saved many from the black plague years ago. They have powerful antibacterial, antiseptic properties.

This is the other note:
Lots of times when we have stomach problems we don't know what to blame. Maybe it's the onions that are to blame. Onions ABSORB BACTERIA is the reason they are so good at preventing us from getting colds and flu and is the very reason we should NOT eat an onion that has been sitting for a time after it has been cut open.

LEFT OVER ONIONS ARE POISONOUS

I had the wonderful privilege of touring Mullins Food Products, Makers of mayonnaise. Questions about food poisoning came up, and I wanted to share what I learned from a chemist.

Ed, who was our tour guide, is a food chemistry whiz. During the tour, someone asked if we really needed to worry about mayonnaise. People are always worried that mayonnaise will spoil. Ed's answer will surprise you. Ed said that all commercially-made mayo is completely safe.

"It doesn't even have to be refrigerated. No harm in refrigerating it, but it's not really necessary." He explained that the pH in mayonnaise is set at a point that bacteria could not survive in that environment. He then talked about the summer picnic, with the bowl of potato salad sitting on the table, and how everyone blames the mayonnaise when someone gets sick.

Ed says that, when food poisoning is reported, the first thing the officials look for is when the 'victim' last ate ONIONS and where those onions came from (in the potato salad?). Ed says it's not the mayonnaise (as long as it's not homemade mayo) that spoils in the outdoors. It's probably the ONIONS, and if not the onions, it's the POTATOES.

He explained onions are a huge magnet for bacteria, especially uncooked onions. You should never plan to keep a portion of a sliced onion.. He says it's not even safe if you put it in a zip-lock bag and put it in your refrigerator.

It's already contaminated enough just by being cut open and out for a bit, that it can be a danger to you (and doubly watch out for those onions you put in your hotdogs at the baseball park!). Ed says if you take the leftover onion and cook it like crazy you'll probably be okay, but if you slice that leftover onion and put on your sandwich, you're asking for trouble. Both the onions and the moist potato in a potato salad, will attract and grow bacteria faster than any commercial mayonnaise will even begin to break down.

Also, dogs should never eat onions. Their stomachs cannot metabolize onions.

PLEASE REMEMBER IT IS DANGEROUS TO CUT AN ONION AND TRY TO SAVE IT TO COOK WITH THE NEXT DAY, IT BECOMES HIGHLY POISONOUS FOR EVEN A SINGLE NIGHT - AS IT CREATES TOXIC BACTERIA WHICH CAUSES ADVERSE STOMACH INFECTIONS BECAUSE OF EXCESS BILE SECRETIONS AND EVEN FOOD POISONING.

Lt Col (Retd) Nikku Narang

8 Oct 2015 — Whenever and in whatever form OROP comes, it has brought several hidden issues and questions to the forefront. Having become the most frequently used four letter word, its impact will hit hard in the next two decades.

A 42 year issue is entering its final stages. Several key issues have been missed or deliberately omitted, both by the parties to the issue and the media. But the tax payer needs to know as it is he who is footing the bill.

In 1973 armed forces pension were cut from 70% to 50% of basic. OROP was dangled to assuage protests. The then chiefs could have rightly said - cut the pension from the date you implement OROP and not before that. Any court would have agreed to this.

But this pension cut hides a tale of skulduggery. If armed forces pension was cut in the name of austerity, the principle could not have been argued against. But where did this cut go? It went to the chefs of the cut – the bureaucracy, who hiked their pension from 30% to 50% – a whopping 66%! This is a classic case where the front line soldier, Peter, was robbed to pay the air-conditioned file pushing Paul. And all with the active connivance of the political class. And witness how this ‘grate’ful civil and police service grated in front of the netas during emergency. This you scratch me, I scratch you, has continued ever since.

All soldiers and their widows who died between 1973 and today, without seeing OROP, have paid for the greed of the civil service and this has not been highlighted for obvious reasons. If OROP is costly then why not reverse the costs – reduce the pensions of the civil service to pay for the soldiers – for the next 42 years.

But in as much as the soldier may blame others, the fact is that his own commanders have also let him down. Starting with the chiefs in 1973 who had the best chance of doing anything, successive chiefs hardly made any attempt to resolve the issue. But the cruellest stab was made by these very chiefs, when in 2008 OROP was brought in to benefit Judges, civil services and armed forces belonging to the HAG (Higher Administrative Scale). It was done surreptitiously and quietly. And as far as the shameless generals are concerned, the motto on Chetwode Hall is only for giving ‘moral lectures’ in staff colleges and while addressing troops. The motto has been reversed in toto and it effects are beginning to show within the serving army and though not public, the palpitations in the top rungs are visible to those who know how to see.

OROP has unwittingly brought several other issues to the fore. These are likely to clash when the Seventh Pay Commission recommendations are out. The first is – what should be the cap on expenses paid as salaries/pensions from the Consolidated Fund of India? Next, why do the armed forces NOT have representation in the commission? Next, should there be any differential in the various cadres and if so why? We always see the armed forces being called out when the others created a snafu. Calling the army “to assist the civil services” means the political leadership, civil service and the police have miserably failed. If the armed forces are the force of last resort, then surely they must rank the highest in the salary structure.

There is talk that the police, para military forces etc also doing an equally risky job. Is it? Then let the BSF guard the border, let the police tackle naxalites and insurgents and terrorists. The army will withdraw to the barracks and emerge when an official war is declared. Finally repeal AFSPA. Do the powers that be have the courage for all this?

For a long time because of the Army, Navy and Air Force Acts, the silenced media and the lack of alternate publicity, kept the OROP issue under wraps. Today it is the most frequently used four letter word. In the last few years, net based social media and other alternatives have surmounted these impediments. And the results are there to see like the 12th. September gathering that was bigger than any other, with government forced to stop vehicles and even pedestrians. The “free” media was also nowhere.

The political class and bureaucracy have not only mishandled the situation but have even created an undercurrent in the serving forces. The bloodlines between the serving personnel and veterans are as high as 80%-90%. We will see the results in less than a decade. The process is irreversible.

Why only the cost of the bureaucracy and the armed forces? We also need to look at the cost of democracy itself – i.e. what we pay our legislators. Are we paying them for frittering away an entire session? Are we paying them for attendance that in a college would disqualify a student from writing the exams? What are their pension rules? How does their wealth multiply 500% in five years? It is time that these questions are asked.

Just ten years after independence a political bombshell exploded in India – for the first time anywhere in the world, a Communist government was democratically elected. Will we elect a military government in a decade?

And lastly, before asking the UN to define terrorism, at least accept definitions given by the Supreme Court and a Parliamentary Committee.

O R O P :: AGITATION AT JM IN SUPPORT OF OROP AND THE WAY AHEAD

AGITATION AT JM IN SUPPORT OF OROP                                 AND
                   THE WAY AHEAD

Dear Veterans

Your fight for OROP is 40 yrs old when your status was lowered in respect to civil counterparts. Veterans have been fighting since then but to no avail. In 2008 some veterans got together and decided that gentlemanly behavior has only resulted in loss to our status and hence time has come to fight for our status. IESM was formed in 2008 and veterans truly believed philosophy of IESM and participated in rallies and dharnas organized by IESM in last seven years. IESM was able to communicate to people of India that OROP is our genuine right and OROP has been brought to center stage of Nation.
We have still a long way to go and convince citizen that life of an Armed Forces personnel is very tough. We made a big mistake of always showing our happy face and not talking about difficult life of an Army man. Today an ordinary citizen is convinced that life in Army is very good as they have free booze, CSD and clubs. This perception needs to be corrected. On the other hand bureaucrats have always been communicating the hardest part of their life even if they have most comfortable and lavish life style.

ESM are agitating for 116 days at JM for approval of OROP as per the definition. During the negotiations in last three months, Govt emissaries made it very clear that the Govt is not ready to agree to approved definition of OROP and would release only highly diluted OROP.  What is the pressure on the Govt and what is the arithmetic of this rigid stand is difficult to fathom? However despite tremendous pressure UFESM refused to accept diluted OROP and communicated that agitation at JM will continue till OROP as per approved definition is released.

MUDRA  MANTRI IS ALSO A CONSPIRATOR  -

Despite objections from UFESM, Government made unilateral announcement of approval of OROP. On 5 Sept 15 RM, in the presence of three Chiefs, announced truncated and heavily watered down OROP.  While the Government claimed that it has released Rs 10000/ crores for OROP, the actual exp for this watered down OROP would not be more than Rs3000/ to Rs 4000/ crores per year as against Rs 8300/ crores calculated by RM. ESM at JM instantly rejected this announced OROP and called this as only one time increase and murder of OROP. The announced OROP is nowhere near approved definition of OROP. To rub salt in our wounds, PM announced in Faridabad that he was transferring funds kept for poor people to meet the demand of OROP. This humiliation is not acceptable to veterans and veterans loudly ask  about the exp and subsidies given for NFU, Parliament canteen and other host of issues.

UFESM has communicated to RM that there are seven serious anomalies (shortcomings) in the announced OROP and OROP in this form is not acceptable to veterans. We have not received any reply or even a meeting to explain our objections.

Veterans are aware that JM agitation is getting approval of vast majority of society. President and members of bar council of SC had visited JM and expressed their full support for OROP and even offered to fight our case pro bono. Sh Ram Jethamalani (RJ) luminary lawyer of India has also offered to fight our case for OROP free and has promised full support.

In view of hard stand of Govt for OROP, UFESM has decided to enter phase three of agitation. In this UFESM will ensure visibility of agitation in all states. Accordingly rallies and Press Conferences are being organized in all states. UFESM has organized rallies in Nagpur, Vadodra, Sikkim,  Ambala, Gurdaspur, Hamirpur, Una, Gagret, Dharamsala and Simla. A very large rally is planned in Jullunder on 18 Oct  and Mumbai on 31 Oct  to explain the latest on OROP. More rallies will be planned in major towns and all states in India to explain to ESM that they have been cheated and the announced OROP is not the real OROP.

UFESM had taken a conscience decision to hold a Press Conference in poll bound Bihar instead of a rally. PC was planned at Patna on 4 Oct to be addressed by UFESM and Sh RJ. ESM from all districts of Bihar had come to attend the PC and to learn the latest status of OROP. Gen Satbir, Gp Capt VK Gandhi and Lt Pandey briefed the press about the latest position on OROP. It was made abundantly clear that sanctioned scheme was not OROP but heavily watered down form of OROP. Seven serious shortcomings were also explained to press and ESM. After the briefing on OROP, Sh RJ addressed the press and talked about defeating BJP in Bihar. This was beyond the planned and agreed format of PC and it was clarified by Gen Satbir and Lt Pandey. It was explained that these were personal views of Mr RJ and we are here only to brief about OROP.  Gen Panjikar, son of soil, also briefed about OROP and status of IESM. He asked ESM to establish IESM in Bihar and go to JM to take part in agitation and RHS. Gen P Panjikar had made all admin arrangements at Patna for PC. ESM of Bihar expressed faith in leadership of UFESM and confirmed that IESM Bihar chapter will soon become a reality.

Information is being collated to file a PIL for OROP in case it is forced on us to go to SC.

UFESM has decided to intensify agitation at JM. Veterans are requested to forward their suggestions to intensify the agitation.
